Starting the morning with a walk (or run or ride) outside before work always makes my day more pleasant. Why, then, is it so hard to find the motivation to actually roll out of bed and do it?
Gotta say, car buying is tiresome. It takes way longer than I expect, and I’m completely drained after. But my salesperson was awesome! Super personable, very helpful in finding vehicles with the features I wanted, and went to bat for me to get it to the price I needed. I pick it up on Tuesday! 🤞
Finished reading (again): Piranesi by Susanna Clarke 📚
Just as excellent on the second read through. This is one that sits with you, like a river-smoothed stone you can’t help but continue to turn over in your pocket.
Hmm. Pretty sure I popped a finger tendon tonight. I’d always hoped this climbing injury wouldn’t come for me, but come it has.
The most recent couple of episodes of Ted Lasso (S03 E06/07) have been a real joy. A return to the magic of season 1, IMO. 😊
If you haven’t yet listened to All Consuming, let this be the toe that gets you in the door.
Fuck cancer.
This was an excellent book. Consider my interest piqued. (Hugh Laurie! Mark Ruffalo!)
Got in a bunch of rope work practice yesterday! Did my first rope solo on rock(!), rappelled using saddlebags method, and tried out hauling using a 3:1 pulley system. Success on all fronts! Practice makes better. 📷
Felt a bit off today, but that didn’t stop me from onsighting ‘Bozeman Bullet’ (5.6). It’s so good, can’t wait to climb it again! (Also flashed ‘Space Cowboy’ (5.7), but no pics.) 📹
The Macalope: If sideloading is allowed in iOS 17, someone will pay for it—and it won’t be Apple
Now, before you get all excited or hot and bothered or relentlessly stung by bees, remember that this is Apple we’re talking about here. The company has a strict policy of giving a millimeter when regulators legally mandate an inch.
😂
As far as I can remember, this is the first time I’ve been able to pay for and download an app directly from the banner on its website, rather than being sent over to the App Store first. Is this new? (Extension is Magic Highlighter, found via Daring Fireball)
📺 Finished watching: The Last of Us (2023) on HBO, created by Craig Mazin & Neil Druckmann ★★★★
I don’t always get on board with the latest popular TV crazes, but this one definitely held up. I appreciated that while you certainly felt on edge for every episode, there weren’t as many jump and zombie scares as there could have been. I loved seeing the trust grow between Ellie and Joel, and how they helped each other become less broken over time — even while having to do horrific things.
And, yes, the ending is quite shocking.
