I’ve got a couple of hours. Do I
Whoa. The ‘Download Template…’ feature of @danielpunkass’s MarsEdit is wild. Within a few seconds, it made a temporary post to my blog and used it to download the CSS. Now post previews look exactly like they will online. With a MarsEdit for iOS, so many of my blogging nitpicks would be solved. 🤞
I’ve heard a notable number of podcasters say recently that they expect the Vision Pro announcement part deux to be imminent. I’ve been thinking it would be late in January, but perhaps they’re ready to show it off sooner? My spidey-sense is tingling.
I missed this iPhone ad when it came out a few weeks ago:
It’s so good. Very creative. I almost felt bad for the power outlet.

This is not the first time Wilson has aired his problematic opinions as he has frequently received backlash for fatphobic, anti-Asian, and sexist comments. Famously, when speaking of Japanese people, Wilson said he named lululemon as such because:
It’s a tough pronunciation for them. […] I was playing with Ls and I came up with Lululemon. It’s funny to watch them try to say it.
Sounds like a real piece of work.

Microsoft wants 2024 to be “the year of the AI PC,” and it’s kicking things off with a significant change to the keyboard on new laptops and PCs. A new Copilot key will ship on a variety of new PCs and laptops from Microsoft’s partners, providing quick access to Microsoft’s AI-powered Windows Copilot experience straight from a keyboard button press.
Yeah, I guess this makes sense. Will there still be a Copilot key in 10 years? I’m not sure, but I’d guess at yes.
Come on. So good.
Think of every email you send as a pebble. To you, it may seem like a comically small thing—almost non-existent in size and weight. But, to a recipient already holding hundreds of other people's pebbles, receiving even one more tiny pebble is not without a cost.
🆕📝 Crashing Clockwise #535: ‘It’s Even Embarrassing in Metric’
A new guest and news of a new human (currently in beta)? What a great way to start off 2024!

This happened enough times that I felt broken. Clearly, I was incapable of handling a simple task like cooking, and the friction of me struggling wasn’t something my partner could tolerate. The miasma of frustration obfuscated reason or calm. I would retreat with my shame, sitting with it until it settled into another stratum. What was so wrong with me that I couldn’t get this right?
Back then, I didn’t realize how much shame informed how I operated in the world.
🔗
Looking back on it, I actually had a productive break. I did everything I set out to do and then some. It was rejuvenating, creatively satisfying, and fun—a beneficial time for my heart, my mind, and my body. I’m thankful for the time away and glad that I used it wisely.
The week between Christmas and New Year’s used to be one of my favorites of the year in my salaried job. Everyone took the week off, so it was like a free week. I don’t have that now, but I’m super happy for those like Devon who got to tackle their personal projects.
🎙️ Ooh I do like this thesis of Robert Caro’s (of The Power Broker fame):
Power doesn’t corrupt, power reveals.
🆕📝 Year-End Surprise Product Launches Can’t Come Cheap
That Apple Watch snafu didn’t just cost them money in sales.
It’s no wonder Apple spokespeople are guarded with their statements. The “just buy your mom an iPhone” phrase has been so weaponized against Tim Cook. If he’d said something more along the company line like, “We think you get the best messaging experience with iMessage and an iPhone,” I don’t think we’d still be hearing about it today.
After many hours and many, many trials, I’ve finally figured out how to automate crossposting my Instagram posts over here to my microblog. I made a version a while back, but it couldn’t handle multi-item posts. But now it works with everything and it auto-generates Alt Text for each image. 🎉
Oh how I wish I could order a few of these, they look so good! 🤩
In December, Apple Park Visitor Center launched a new range of white and black t-shirts inspired by vintage Apple designs. Some popular picks from previous seasons have also returned. My two favorites, “Hello Screen” and “Macintosh Drawing,” taken from the Macintosh 128k box, seem fitting for the Mac’s upcoming 40th anniversary. It’s my understanding that, for a few more weeks, these same shirts are also available at Apple Infinite Loop.
This has become a rule in my life. If I don’t immediately see something on the menu that catches my eye, I’ll order the thing with their name on it.
Almost always order the specific food that is mentioned in the name of the restaurant. If you go to "Sally's Sirloin Shack" and order the sushi sampler, you're probably not hooked up right.
Oh shit! I just found out there’s a unique RSS (well, JSON) feed for my bookmarks on Micro.blog (because of course there is.) Now I might actually remember that I’ve bookmarked things there!

I’m trying to read less temporal (things that matter now) and more fundamental (stuff that mattered 1+ year ago and will still matter in 1+ year, with even wider intervals for non-tech content).
Yes. This is why I’m going to turn the dial back on blogs a bit and up on books this year. (Via Garrit Franke)
