I just updated my ‘📢 Publish Quote’ shortcut to version 2.0:
Now you copy the quote before sharing its URL, meaning the shortcut is far more flexible and can be run from anywhere (like RSS reader apps!), not just Safari
This is a massive update with a bunch of new niceties, like options to include author attribution, saving copies of each post to Drafts, and much more.
Get it from the HeyDingus Shortcuts Library.
As always, please let me know if you find any goofs. 🙏
I think this is just a fact with Apple shortcuts but there is no way to suppress the always annoying questions of if I want to allow access to a website right? Also, curious what RSS reader you use as trialing on my phone it wants to pull in not only the webpage link but something from reeder too… 🤔
@ericmwalk Yeah, that’s a known issue, unfortunately. It should only ask the first time you run for a given site, so it gets better with time, but every new site means a few permission dialogs to tap through. And it asks on each device. 🙄 If/when Apple blesses Shortcuts with more sane permission options, I will weep with joy.
I’ve been using Reeder for years, and it’s how I’ve published most quotes with this shortcut over the last four months.
@ericmwalk I just added a ‘Known Issues’ bit on its page on my site, so folks will know what to expect.
now the next loaded question is what if I want to post it to a different M.b site I have 🫣
@ericmwalk As in choose which blog to post to each time? Or post consistently to one of them in particular?
post consistently to one in particular. I then quick looked and see I could probably just create a new publish to M.b shortcut specific for the site I would want 😄
@ericmwalk Yup! You could edit the existing one, or duplicate the whole shortcut and edit it so that you have a version specifically for each blog to use. Either way, this is the action you should edit where you can put the Micro.blog subdomain for the blog you want to post to. The API key can stay the same.
thanks that worked. However, another question have you used it on Safari on iOS? If so then i have an issue if not no worries as it works perfectly through Reeder (minus the theme thing you are digging into).
@ericmwalk I think I’ve identified that issue. Can you give this version a shot? Thanks so much!
always happy to help and that worked perfectly! Thanks again.
@ericmwalk Woohoo! Now to track down @pratik‘s bug and maybe it’ll be safe to re-release! 🤞
perfect! I will look for the re-release!
