If there’s one thing I learned about Napoleon tonight, it’s that he loved to play with his cannons. 🍿
If you make it through Trying S02E08 without a happy cry, or at least a few solid happy tears, you’ve got tougher emotional walls than me, my friend. 🥹📺
Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death isn’t really doing it for me. There’s still time, though, and I did love the first season. 📺
📺 Finished watching: BEEF on Netflix ★★★★
The ante just. kept. getting. raised!
🍿 Just watched: Oppenheimer ★★★★
It’s a far cry from The Dark Knight or Inception, but boy does Nolan know how to make a movie. I was riveted through the whole three-hour trial-that-wasn’t-a-trial.
I’m continually amazed by what humans can make, and what they can do to each other.
While watching the first episode of The Afterparty Season 2, I was a little worried that it had lost its mojo. The setup seemed a bit ham-fisted, and I didn’t connect with any of the characters. But the second episode was an absolute delight. Really looking forward to the reset of the season now! 📺
I couldn’t say it any better myself.
Well, Ted Lesso ended very well. It was a brilliant show with many flaws, but it was always something special.
I’m here for it if it continues on in another form, but if not, that’s fine too. It’s been a special show.
I’d love there to be another story brewing, but I’m so glad that they got to tell the story that they wanted to. 📺
📺 Finished watching: The Last of Us (2023) on HBO, created by Craig Mazin & Neil Druckmann ★★★★
I don’t always get on board with the latest popular TV crazes, but this one definitely held up. I appreciated that while you certainly felt on edge for every episode, there weren’t as many jump and zombie scares as there could have been. I loved seeing the trust grow between Ellie and Joel, and how they helped each other become less broken over time — even while having to do horrific things.
And, yes, the ending is quite shocking.
📺 Finished watching: The Climb (2023) on HBO Max, created by Chris Sharma and Jason Mamoa ★★★☆
I’m a climber who has always enjoyed the bromance between Sharma and Mamoa. So I was super interested in this series. I found it a bit pedantic and cringy early on and was disappointed that Mamoa had basically zero involvement with the climbers. But everyone was personable and showed up in a big way in the actual climbing. I grew to enjoy the series and was on the edge of my seat during the finale.
Finished watching: Loot Season 1 (2022) created by Alan Yang & Matt Hubbard ★★★★ 📺
Just as funny as I expected, but with way more heart. A little cliché in parts, but still a fun and worthwhile watch. Maya Rudolph is a national treasure.
So I flew through the whole first season of Ted Lasso in two days. Even as someone who’s rewatched it multiple times and knows it very well, I still got the feels. ★★★★ 📺
Just watched: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) directed by Edgar Wright 🎥 ★★★★
Totally get why this is a cult classic! It’s super fun to see so many familiar, beloved faces in one film. Even if the storyline is a bit pejorative, it’s exquisitely shot and edited, and is a good watch.
Just watched: The Greatest Beer Run Ever (2022) directed by Peter Farrelly 🎥 ★★★☆
A story worth being told, with a good mix of cluelessness and courage. A reminder that friends are chosen family, and we’d do anything for our family.
Just watched: Office Space (1999) directed by Mike Judge 🎥 ★★★★
Yeah, so, this was the perfect combination of dumb, funny, and entertaining. Great movie for when you just want to turn off your mind for a bit. And so quotable.
Finished watching: Acapulco (2021, season 1) directed by Richard Shepard ★★★★ 📺
A fun ride so far. Excited for seasons 2 and 3.
Just watched: Pretty Strong (2020) by Never Not Collective ★★★★ 🎥
Incredible climbing. Tangible stoke. All-female climbers and filmmakers. 👍👍 (Trailer)
Just watched: Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) directed by the Daniels 🎥 ★★★★
In a word, wild. In two words, absurdly entertaining. In three words, just gotta watch.
Finished watching: The Menu (2022) directed by Mark Mylod 🎥 ★★☆☆
Quite strange. Perhaps engrossing? Sillier as it went on.
