Happy DubDub day! I’ve got the day off (🥳) and will watch and spew out unasked for opinions about all the announcements! I’ll do my best to keep them in this thread, and (if I remember) add the #WWDC hashtag so you can mute if you’re uninterested. But I encourage you to embrace the optimism! 😁 🧵

My naming prediction for version 15 of macOS: Sequoia
#WWDC
Btw, I’m not a big fan of the combined “WW” mark in this year’s conference branding.
#WWDC
Hmm… seems like Micro.blog strips out the hashtag symbol from the timeline even though the text is there behind the scenes. Might dispense with doing that then. @help, is that right?
@jarrod Same. Unless it is a hidden meaning, it’s just weird.
Here we go!
Phil on screen!
Oh wow. This is intense. Do you think people will actually parachute into the ring real time?
“Intelligence”. Apple Intelligence?
Whoa, TV+ is five years old this year.
Calling out other streaming services. They’re confident.
Severence!!
I need more time to watch more of these shows.
Was that a quick ScarJo cameo?
Sounds like Intelligence is going to get its own section. Probably good call.
Hmm, have we seen those space gray chairs and cushions before? @michaelsteeber
Let’s see what’s happening with visionOS 2.
Oh, that’s so cool! Changing all photos, even 2D ones into 3D spatial photos.
Oh thank god, I was really hoping for some hand gestures for getting around the system.
I don’t think anyone had ultra-wide macOS desktops on their predictions but seems like a good compromise for multiple displays.
Oh shit! Third-party spatial video lenses for other cameras.
AND third-party immersive content. Sounds like immersive concerts are coming.
Yaaay recent guest user and rearrangeable home views for visionOS!
LOL Swift bird shadow.
iOS and home screen stuff up now. Better app grid and icon tinting. 👍
The continuous swipe to get to a particular section of Control Center is nice. Yay third-party controls. How about Shortcuts?
No way, they finally are letting us swap out the quick controls on the lock screen!
Locking specific apps has been a loooong time coming. I wrote about it three years ago.
There we go, a Craig’s hair joke.
The latest version of Android has this private apps section too.
Please emoji tapbacks…
Yaay emoji tapbacks!!!
And scheduled messages!!! Formatting, text effects, more. Huge year for Messages. I wonder if we can format with Markdown. Probs not.
Arbitrary (non-emergency) satellite messages! Wasn’t expecting that from WWDC. I think it’s going to be a new phone year for me. Satellite features are going to be fantastic for my guiding work.
I’m getting Big Mail vibes from the Mail updates. Not sure those features are going to be for me.
Trial maps should be awesome too, but we need them everywhere, not just popular parks.
Gonna have to dig into those Apple Pay improvements. They’re going through things so fast.
Sounds like @jsnell is going to have a lot of book writing to do this year with the Photos redesign. My first impression…is mixed.
What I want most out of Photos is the ability to select a bunch of photos and have it create an easily sharable recap video.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a Safari-like revolt over the Photos app redesign. I think a lot of people have workflows built around the current design.
Lol Reminders back in Calendar got a quick message.
Looks like another AirPods walk is in store.
Whoa…nodding and shaking responses to Siri. Talk about augmented reality!
Nice, they aped Amazon’s X-Ray with InSight. That will be so nice.
I’m a subtitle user, so nice to see more happening there.
Gonna have some decisions to make on all those new screensavers in tvOS!
Apple Watch is jumping on the training load game, giving suggestions on rest and recovery.
I didn’t realize I wanted to customize the Fitness summary page. But I did.
Rest days for the Rings!! FINALLY!
Hmm, a new Vitals app for watchOS. That could be pretty cool. But I never go into the heart rate or those other individual vitals apps.
Love to see Check In for workouts on Apple Watch. But I’d really like to see a map view in the Workouts app.
Third-party watch faces? Probably not…
My wife is big into the photos watch face. I’ll have to remember to suggest some of these improvements to her.
A floating tab bar on iPadOS isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it’s better than the bottom bar I think.
Oh hell yes, remote control of iOS devices over FaceTime. Family support just got so much better.
Literally LOL’d at the “yay” for iPad Calculator app.
Not that I’m going to use it often, but the Math Notes looks pretty sweet. Nice touch in putting the auto-solved answers in the user’s own handwriting.
Holy smokes, that was a cool Calculator demo. (Never thought I’d say that.)
Smart Script makes me feel a little weird, but it is super cool. It might actually get me to write more on my iPad if I can actually read my improved writing there.
Looks like Craig took some Parkour lessons from the visionOS Adventure episode. (The stunt double was a little too obvious though.)
I’m enjoying this!
here comes passwords app
Sequoia! I was right!! (Haha, “anything that could get that high”)
Mirror iPhone for macOS. Now developers don’t even need to enable their app for macOS.
iPhone notifications on my Mac? But did they redesign the disastrous Notification Center there? I just started turning off notifications there yesterday.
Ooooh! Better tiling for windows with proper gaps between the windows. Sorry third-party apps.
Hey an old iChat Theater feature with those nice backgrounds!
Passwords app is a go. I’m kinda surprised they went with “Passwords” as the name, seeing as they’re trying to phase those out with Passkeys. I would have gone with “Keychain”. Also, unless I can add arbitrary data to the app, I still might be going back to 1Password.
Those Safari updates were…restrained? The design reminded me of Arc, and Reader and Viewer look nice, but they didn’t go very far in the summary/intelligence realm. Maybe we’ll see more later.
I instinctively took a bathroom break during the gaming segment, but sounded like maybe some good stuff there? Will have to rely on others’ analysis to know if it’s actually something.
Okay, let’s get into the AI stuff. What have they been cooking up?
Personal and private are the important to me from that list.
AI: Apple Intelligence it is. (Good call @danielpunkass!) I’m pretty excited!
Writing tools across everything. With a nice little Genius-like logo. Hasn’t mentioned Siri yet.
Whoa… I didn’t expect generated images. They look…interesting. But at first glance I wouldn’t say they nailed the style like they did with Memoji.
Oh yes, asking for those specific actions is exactly what I wanted out of a system AI feature.
“Many” of the models run on-device. Some are going to go to servers too, BUT with Private Cloud Compute.
Apple is really stepping up the cloud computing privacy game here.
“Siri” With a new logo.
Did you catch that little indentation on the screen when you press the side button? Nice.
Conversational awareness. ✅
Double-tap to type to Siri. Nice.
On-screen awareness and in-app actions are going to be super cool, but coming later.
LOL They used Apple Intelligence to write that email rather than use the ‘Superhuman AI’ button in the app.
Yes, fill my driver’s license number please!
“A new era for Siri” We’ll see.
If these proofreading writing tools lets me uninstall Grammarly, I’ll consider it a win.
Watching the app’s AI (like Copilot) battle it out with the system’s AI on writing suggestions is going to be fun.
Intelligent ‘Reduce Interruptions’ focus mode could be cool, could be terrible. Will need a bunch of testing.
I think the Unicode Consortium is going to get way fewer new emoji proposals if people can just make their own emoji that work functionally the same.
Image Playground as an API is pretty wild.
Memory Movies!! That’s what I wanted!
I feel like they’re doing the third-party chatbots through gritted teeth.
The only miss on the AI section was them not using @danielpunkass‘s catchphrase. “There’s nothing artificial about Apple Intelligence.”
Looks like my prediction of all future Apple Events being shot on iPhone is playing out.
Wow. What an event. I feel like I need to start it over again at half-speed just to catch it all! Good luck to everyone whose job it is now to publish summaries as quick as they can.
“pressure”?
@alpower Thanks! Glad it wasn’t too annoying. 😉
@andyn Yeah, they’ve got some great stuff for snapping and tiling. I liked what I saw at the recent Windows event.
@mandaris What’s that, sorry?
The addition of the chatbots might have just been there to make some investors or people happy. Sometimes projects get added so people stay.
It doesn’t strip out the hashtag symbol, but if you add a “#” at the beginning of a line, because it’s Markdown it turns that into a header! Which effectively does remove the hashtag.
@help Ahh, I see. I wonder if that could be adjusted to look for a “#” plus a space before turning it into a header.
