ā¦found that the company attempted to upsell the customer eight times during the tax filing process.
I got gotten by TurboTax again this year. Their āguideā said Iād need premium live help service because I bought a house. I didnāt use any live help features, the house purchase barely came up, and I was still charged over $300 to file. Iād already put in all the time and effort, so I paid it to be done, but it stung. Iāll be looking at other options earlier next year.
Iām so happy I donāt have to deal with this. For my simple needs, the government online registration fills out all the things by default, and I just have to confirm. One gift to a charity wasnāt included, but that was because I didnāt use my SSN upon giving, and another wasnāt listed among the organisations.
@odd Thatās the thing, Iām never sure if my needs are āsimpleā enough to use the free stuff. And now Iām distrustful of any paid service. š«¤
@jarrod For your list of options to look into next year: My father-in-law suggested I use EZTaxReturn.com five years ago or so, and Iāve had a great experience with them. Really easy to use and very affordable. I paid $55 this year for a ācomplexā filing (married-filing-separately on my state return for a better refund) and a small optional upcharge for insurance to cover if I needed to make any changes to my filing.
@devondundee Thank you! I will put them on my list.
