Reading a social timeline that doesn’t have threaded conversations from top to bottom, newest to oldest, is bananas in my mind. Makes absolutely no sense. I’m reading conversations in reverse, Memento-style. But without a timeline sync, it’s a fool’s errand to try to find where I last left off.

And I can’t be the only one who thinks it’d be better if posts were organized with newest at the bottom, right? Right!? That way you could scroll to the end (the present) and not be encourage to scroll back to the beginning of time.
@jarrod 😂 this is killing me with Mastodon. Reverse reading then figuring out it’s a thread is crazy.
that’s why I read in RSS, oldest to newest, with syncing of position.
@flamed If you’re on Mastodon, you should try the Mona app which has an option for newest on bottom. 🙂 One day I hope to be able to use Micro.blog through that app.
@jsonbecker You’re right, I should try that again. I’ve experimented with it before and didn’t like the experience of all the microposts mixed in with the rest of my RSS feeds. But I’ve had a brain blast just now and realized that I can hook up a different RSS syncing service just for Micro.blog feeds (thanks to @sod!). In this case, I’m going to use Reeder’s iCloud feed syncing to keep things separate and see how it goes. 👍
@jsonbecker Till I saw this thread I hadn’t noticed that I enjoy reading replies to posts I haven’t seen yet. It’s kind of a game, working out whether the whole thread would be worth reading, and guessing what it’s about. Of course I admit it’s inefficient but who wants to read microblogs efficiently?
@jarrod I am totally a web version atm!
@jarrod It's bananas that so few apps and interfaces show threaded conversations properly. It's honnestly the only reason why I use elk.zone.
Same! Well, maybe not Mona but any I would love the option to use Ivory or IceCubes; I love MB but having the customization of the other apps, that would be very welcome.
