🔗 Inside An Apple Lab That Makes Custom Chips For iPhone And Mac - CNBC
In November, CNBC became the first journalists to film inside an Apple chip lab, where it tests its latest M3 chips that replaced Intel processors in all new Macs. We also got a rare chance to talk with Apple’s head of silicon, Johny Srouji, and Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus, about geopolitical risks in Taiwan, slowdowns and what’s next in AI.
CNBC did their homework for this opportunity.
I felt it was a solid recap of Apple’s chip efforts, and where they’re going next. It’s always cool to see a bit behind the scenes of Apple’s teams and workspaces. And you can tell that they’re tremendously confident about their pipeline, guided by the fact that they get to build exactly what they want for their products. I liked that Srouji pointed out that if there’s a product they can buy off the shelf to enable the feature they want in their devices, they’ll buy it. But if they think they can do better, that’s when the ship starts to turn, money gets spent, and it brings yet another bit of stack in-house.
