@help 596 characters in iOS app, and 608 on the web. 🧐

@simonbs Nice! Though I would have have said “inexpensive”.

@kev @bapsi Fair enough. But I still think test piloting rockets would be humbling, unpleasant, and ultimately necessary before launching. 😝

@amit @amit I’ve been adding alt text long enough now with Shortcuts and Drafts that it now feels weird to post something without auto-generated descriptions that I proofread before sending off.

@SimonWoods It’s very odd. And sometimes text will randomly appear at the start of the text box before putting it back in its rightful place. It’s alarming! cc: @help

@heyjb.me Strange! How do you see which specific 18.2 version you have?

@heyjb.me Works for me in Safari too, just not the web view in other apps.

@kwlblt They’re just the best

@jarrod I did get a new, public version of 18.2 after all. But it’s still broken for me. I tried a hard restart too. 😕

@jarrod ‘New iOS 18.2 feature will ‘change the way we make music forever,’ says Michael Bublé’ (Ryan Christoffel / 9to5Mac)

Now that’s the headline Apple should have ran with.

@manton Following that video, @viticci’s lead, and today’s apparent theme, I’ve added this shortcut for typing to Siri:

A text replacement screen shows: Phrase as "Ask ChatGPT:" and Shortcut as "xac," indicating shortcut setup on a device. Options for "Back" and "Save" are visible at the top.

@manton You’re right. Some compelling stuff there. I didn’t know you could have it work with documents open on your Mac.

@matt Yes. I sure did.

@dave You do you, but maybe ‘quotes’ when it’s simply a reprint of the headline and none when it's your comment would help followers distinguish. 🙂

@gregmorris Though, I do wonder if there's a limit on how many replacements you can add. Hopefully, I never find out!

@gregmorris I don't have add everyone to be useful. Just the ones that give me trouble. And I like that if someone moves house later, I won't need to change my habits. Just update the replacement once and continue to use my own shortcut.

@jsonbecker To be fair, I got excited and started putting in anyone who sprung to mind. I don't @-mention all these people regularly.

@bryan My xjic replacement for my email is by far my most used.

@jsnell Oooh very nice. I was going to set up @nileane's FrankenAutomation of AppleScript, BetterTouchTool, and Shortcuts, but I do love a nice app solution. I still might turn that Dictation key into a Siri button if Siri ever gets good... 🤪

@jarrod Too much or not enough? 😅

A pop-up window lists usernames and their mastodon addresses. The content is overlaid on a settings menu with options like "General" and "Keyboard" visible in a forest-themed background.

@jarrod And can we agree that it's weird that iOS and macOS versions of this UI are different, but that the macOS one is much more clear? It takes me a beat sometimes to remember which one is the replacement on iOS.

Keyboard settings window displays text replacement list, overlaying a forest background. A smaller pop-up shows replacement entry: "@matt" with "@matt@isfeeling.social". Options include "Cancel" and "Add".

@ibmacin Ooh I like those! They look like my Rambler Puff "outdoor slippers" (that I still wear indoors sometimes) from Chacos.

A quilted slipper with a drawstring closure rests against a plain background. It features a gray collar and a dark, textured rubber sole. The word "Chaco" is embossed on the sole.

@jsnell That. Is. Amazing.

@amerpie Thanks for that! I keep running into issues with vendors sending me Excel files that open as Numbers files on my Mac.

@jarrod Naturally, I found the missing pair minutes after breaking the seal on the new ones. But it’s difficult to throw them out…

@esamecar It’s infuriating. I don’t know why it wouldn’t check for those App Intent functions as part of its logic for “has this app been used lately?” Some apps I only use via their Shortcuts actions.
