I’m so proud of Scott who had a mega day on his first outing going from gym climbing to real outdoor rock. He got a taste of everything, soaking up as much knowledge as possible about working up different rock textures, crack climbing, following and cleaning trad gear, and rappelling. Today was a primer for our main objective: a long multi-pitch climb on Friday. We explored many picturesque and popular climbs like Seven Ounces, Afternoon Delight, and Shipton’s Voyage!

For our educational courses, we always meet our guests at their level, providing a solid foundation of risk management and technical skills, and then we follow their lead on whatever they want to learn more about. Scott got in a little extra gear placement theory and anchor building practice so he could understand how our belay transitions will flow as we head up the Chapel Pond Slab on Friday. What an awesome day!

It was an honor to guide Michael & Alex on this Intro to Backpacking Trip, fulfilling a dream on Father’s Day weekend. The Nun-Da-Ga-O Ridge was in great shape, and offered plenty of adventure along its 5-mile trail, including stunning vistas, rock scrambles, and so many Pink Lady Slippers! We camped overnight at Gulf Brook, then hiked up Hurricane Mountain for a real icing-on-the-cake finish to a wonderful weekend. From the fire tower, we could view the entire range we traversed the day before.

So many firsts for this father/son team on the trip: first time in the Adirondacks, first time carrying fully-loaded backpacks, first backcountry camping, first time filtering water, and proving that, yes, our legs can get us that one more mile. It was amazing to see these guys cheer each other on throughout the experience.

Here’s to new friends, and exciting adventures, and lasting memories. ⛰️

Tom and I had the whole mountain to ourselves today as we took on Street ( ft) and Nye (ft)! After our 11-hour hike yesterday, we moved a little slower up the trail while navigating our boots carefully through each icy step.

We reached the summits before the clouds rolled in, giving us pristine views over the McIntyres, Santanonis, and Sewards. We even caught a glimpse of Gothics, which we summited yesterday. With temps warming, we had to be extra careful on the descent, trying to avoid punching through the ice into mud and water below.

Crossing back over Indian Pass Brook was our final challenge, which we dispatched with ease, and were rewarded with a fantastic view of the moonrise on our drive out from the Loj. Another perfect day in the peaks.

Winter is sneaking back into the Adirondacks! I had a wonderful time with Jason and Henry as we conquered Street & Nye Mountains today. The frost flowers were in full bloom, and we broke out the microspikes for the first time this season. Although they were capped with clouds when we started, both summits greeted us with crystal clear views of the snow crystals atop the rest of the high peaks. 8.1 miles and 2600 ft elevation gain. 🏔️ 📷

Whiteface was a formidable choice for their first, especially as we opted for the more adventurous up-and-over route via Whiteface Landing. (What a great route!) How to name external drives: find those random stickers you've got in a drawer. You got them with some other stickers or as part of a promo or you've just had them for ages or whatever.
1. Stick on drive.
2. Name drive.
May I introduce:

In December, Apple Park Visitor Center launched a new range of white and black t-shirts inspired by vintage Apple designs. Some popular picks from previous seasons have also returned. My two favorites, “Hello Screen” and “Macintosh Drawing,” taken from the Macintosh 128k box, seem fitting for the Mac’s upcoming 40th anniversary. It’s my understanding that, for a few more weeks, these same shirts are also available at Apple Infinite Loop.

I don’t post often, but wanted to share this! Through years of careful budgeting and paying WAY more than the minimum each and every month, I’m very happy to out of student loan debt! This isn’t something I could have done on my own, and I have incredible parents, being in the right place at the right time for a fortunate job, and the most amazing and supportive wife, (plus a healthy amount of privilege) to thank for setting me on the right path…but it was a choice and hard effort to begin paying them down before graduation, and to continue to make getting out of debt a priorityï¿¼. Our family has a long way to go to be actually be out of debt, but I’m proud and happy to have hit this milestone after three years of focusing on this goal. 📷

After 10 years of thinking about it during hundreds of runs, I finally beat 8th-grade Jarrod running cross country. My best time for our 2-mile races back then was 16:02. Today, I cut about 30 seconds off that time and then continued on four more miles in the 80-degree heat. 📷
